The workshop aims at connecting academic research, R&D labs, and industry on the theme of synaptic electronics and neuromorphic computing, with a specific focus on the role of materials on the efficiency and design of next-generation devices, such as volatile and non-volatile memories and memristors. Particular attention will be dedicated to materials-to-device modelling and to innovative interoperable automatic workflows for industry-driven applications, in close connection with the experimental side.

The event will take place in a hybrid format, both in Barcelona and online. Researchers and experts in the field are friendly invited to attend the workshop and to submit oral and/or poster contributions. On-line poster sessions will be available for both in-person and on-line attendees. The deadline for the abstract submission is October 16, 2021

The scientific program will be organized in 3 sessions covering the following topics: new materials for synaptic electronics; new materials for synaptic electronics; PCM, ReRAM, ECRAM and ferroelectric memristors; role of disorder, defects, and dopants in memristors; and Interoperability, Ontology & Workflows in materials modelling. “First-principles simulations of materials with SIESTA” Flagship School – June 28 / July 2, 2021 https://intersect-project.eu/first-principles-simulations-of-materials-with-siesta-flagship-school-june-28-july-2-2021/ Mon, 24 May 2021 11:47:24 +0000 https://intersect-project.eu/?p=2437 The online Flagship School “First-principles simulations of materials with SIESTA” will take place from June 28 to July 2, 2021.

The school is aimed at students and researchers from different disciplines who already use, or plan to use, first-principles techniques to simulate properties of matter at the atomic scale. In particular, the school will focus on the SIESTA method. Participants will learn its essential theoretical foundations, and how to use the SIESTA code effectively. Pre- and post-processing tools will also be presented.

The format of the school (completely online) allows for a flexible offering of modules of different levels, from basic to advanced, so that participants can adapt their syllabus. In addition, the material prepared for the school will be integrated into the corpus of SIESTA documentation, which will remain available for continuous learning.

The deadline for applications is the 4th June 2021. The school is organized by our Emanuele Bosoni (ICMAB-CSIC, Spain), Antonio Cammarata (Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic), José Mª Escartín (ICN2, Spain), our intersecters Alberto García (ICMAB-CSIC, Spain), Pablo Ordejón (ICN2, Spain), and Miguel Pruneda (ICN2, Spain), and by Zeila Zanolli (Utrecht University, Netherlands). AiiDA introductory tutorial – July 5-9, 2021 https://intersect-project.eu/aiida-introductory-tutorial-july-5-9-2021/ Thu, 20 May 2021 09:32:53 +0000 https://intersect-project.eu/?p=2426 This year’s edition of the AiiDA tutorial will take place from the 5th to the 9th July 2021 in a virtual format There is also a poster session to which participants are encouraged to present their work.

The goal of this 5 day-tutorial is to help students and researchers from the field of computational materials science get started with running and writing reproducible workflows. They will be introduced by experts in the field (including the developers of the code) to the use of AiiDA, a state-of-the-art framework for provenance tracking and workflow management designed to support high-throughput research.

AiiDA already has support for over 50 materials science codes, including established density-functional theory codes such as Quantum ESPRESSO, which will be used for this tutorial. Our INTERSECT IM2D integrates open-source materials modelling codes (Quantum ESPRESSO and SIESTA), with models and modelling software for emerging devices (GinestraTM)  via the SimPhony infrastructure for semantic interoperability and ontologies, powered by the AiiDA workflow engine, and its data-on-demand capabilities and apps interface

Target Audience of the AiiDA introductory tutorial includes computational scientists from both academia and industry, Experience with Python is required, but prior experience with AiiDA is not necessary.

Advanced school on Quantum Transport using SIESTA – May 17/21, 2021 https://intersect-project.eu/advanced-school-on-quantum-transport-using-siesta-may-17-21-2021/ Mon, 26 Apr 2021 09:42:47 +0000 https://intersect-project.eu/?p=2341 The five-day online Advanced school on Quantum Transport using SIESTA, organized by Cecam with our intersecter Pablo Ordéjon, will take place online on May 17-21, 2021, and it’s open.

The advanced school will focus on the field of theoretical condensed matter electronic transport exploiting the non-equilibrium Green’s function approach. In particular, recent advances in transport theory will be presented in the form of lectures and hands-on sessions on hot topics in the field. The teachers will present novel methods used for materials research modelling. Participants will learn the advanced features of SIESTA , such as the calculations of non-equilibrium properties using the TranSIESTA/TBtrans approach and the python framework SISL.

INTERSECT at the NN21 Conference – July 06/09, 2021 https://intersect-project.eu/intersect-at-the-nn21-conference-july-2021/ Wed, 31 Mar 2021 09:56:57 +0000 https://intersect-project.eu/?p=2275 The INTERSECT project will be presented by Arrigo Calzolari, INTERSECT coordinator, at the 18th International Conference on Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (NN21) that will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from the 6th to the 9th of July, 2021.

Together with other representatives from EU funded R&D projects in Nanotechnologies, Organic Electronics and Nanomedicine, Arrigo Calzolari (CNR-Nano), INTERSECT coordinator, will introduce the project’ latest advances during the Special Workshop on EU projects, where information on the cutting-edge R&D activities in European and International level will be provided. These Oral presentations will be part of Nanotexnology 2021 program, while all the EU Projects will also be presented in a dedicated Poster Session within this Special Workshop. The workshop will take place on July 6th, 2021, with our presentation scheduled at 5.30 pm.

NN21 Conference is a world-class International event in Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies (N&N) that focuses on the latest advances on N&N and promotes profound scientific discussions between scientists, researchers from different disciplines and market leaders. NN21 conference will be comprised of associated Workshops and Special Events, covering the latest developments in the fields of Nanosciences & Nanotechnologies.

The Simulation Workflows in Materials Modeling – SWiMM 2021 workshop will familiarize its participants with new trends and solutions in simulation workflow management and optimization, coupling and linking of codes, and data integration by semantic interoperability in materials modelling. The online event, organized by our intersecter EPFL, Centre Européen de Calcul Atomique et Moléculaire, School on Simulation Workflows in Materials Modelling, will take place from the 15 to 26 of March, 2021.

With community-governed semantic assets, data with a heterogeneous provenance (e.g., based on different models and methods) can be integrated into common frameworks, and simulation services can be integrated into a variety of platforms that will serve model, data, and software providers as well as their clients in the future. This includes end-user guided model design, simulation-based business decision support, virtual marketplaces where services can be traded, and the interaction with simulation data and metadata repositories.

The lecturers of SWiMM 2021 are active contributors to innovations in this area from a variety of perspectives, including HPC, multi-granularity simulation, complex and high-throughput workflows, repository and platform development, uncertainty quantification, and ontology-based data technology. They have developed solutions and codes that are ready for dissemination and ample use by both academics and industrial engineers, which they will present at SWiMM 2021 to accelerate and assist the uptake of these technologies by the CECAM community.

Our intersecters Nicola Marzari and Giovani Pizzi will give lecturers about “The AiiDA & Materials Cloud informatics platform for complex workflows”, on the following dates:
